Wyclef To Run For President of Haiti

Haiti's biggest celebrity, Wyclef Jean, has made the necessary steps toward running for president of his home country, but has reportedly not made a decision if he will campaign for the job.

According to Reuters, Jean took the legal steps while in Haiti on Thursday (July 29), where he worked with lawyers and had his fingerprints taken by the judicial police as part of the legal process of preparing to run for president.

The hip-hop artist says he's qualified to run for Haiti's highest office.

"I basically come out to Haiti today because it was important that I do my fingerprints," Jean told the news service.

"There are a lot of rumors that I am running for president. I have not declared that," he added. "If we decide to move forward, I am pretty sure that we have all our paperwork straight."

Haiti is scheduled to vote to elect a new leader to replace President Rene Preval, whose term ends in February, on November 28.

The deadline for candidates to register, and if Wyclef would run, would be August 7.

Sources close to the musician told Reuters that Jean will officially announce his candidacy next week on CNN before flying back to Haiti to enter the race.

Jean, however, has not confirmed or denied the rumors.

Hs says he plans to discuss his decision with his Claudinette and their daughter Angelina. "As a family, we must decide on what we're going to do because it is a big sacrifice," he said.

Jean immigrated to the United States at the age of 9, but has maintained his Haitian citizenship. In the U.S., he became a multi-platinum hip-hop artist as a member of the Fugees in the 1990s, before launching a successful solo career.

Woman High On Drugs Seen On Video Giving Counter-Top Dance While Partner Attempts To Steal Cigarettes

DALLAS - A woman who allegedly danced on the counter while her partner tried to steal cigarettes from a convenience store is behind bars thanks to tips from FOX 4 viewers.

Dallas police said they started getting calls about Theresa Hutchinson just after surveillance video from a Ross Avenue 7-Eleven robbery was shown on TV.

Theresa Hutchinson

In the video a woman, seemingly strung out on drugs, gets on the counter and starts dancing while her partner stuffs cigarettes in a bag.

She continues dancing, trying to distract the clerk. But he grabs a stick to defend himself.

The woman jumps down and keeps dancing to keep the clerk away from her partner. When he doesn"t back down, she grabs a checkout scanner and swings.

Three minutes after they enter the store, the two robbers leave. But the clerk doesn"t let them take the bag of cigarettes. He wrestles to get it back and the pair gets away with nothing.

"We had several tips before 10 o"clock last night and more this morning that led us directly to this woman," said Sr. Cpl. Janice Crowther.

Hutchinson is now charged with robbery and is behind bars at the Lew Sterrett jail.

Police are still looking for her partner and another man who was with her for a similar robbery at an Exxon store on Abrams Road.
